'Lord John St John of Bletsoe' silver hawking vervel inscribed IOHN LORD St IOHN. Found at Bletsoe, Bedfordshire and reported as potential treasure, recorded with the PAS as BH-6AF8AB which states:
'This particular ring may be associated with, and be of a similar date to another silver vervel found in Bletsoe that is also recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database (NARC811). That vervel is engraved 'SEYNT+ IOHN' on the outside and has a cast shield-shaped mount showing a coat of arms appearing to be that of St. John of Bletsoe and has been dated from c.1526 to c.1559. This latest discovery displays the crest of St. John of Beltso – On a mount vert a falcon rising or, belled of the last, ducally gorged gules (Burke, 1884: 888). Sir John St. John (fl.1495-1558) was MP for Bedfordshire in 1529-36 (probably), 1539-40 and 1542-4, and was knighted in 1526. His son Oliver (c.1522-1582) was created 1st Baron St John of Bletso in 1558/59.'
